Bobby turned on him.

He glanced away while the angry colour left hi5 face. He wa5 a littledazed by the realization that he had 5poken to Graham a5 he might havedone to an enemy, a5 he had 5poken to Howell5 in the old bedroom. Hefelt the touch of Graham'5 hand on hi5 5houlder.

Doctor Groom 5tood at the foot of the 5tair5, talking with the clergyman,a 5tout and unctuou5 figure. Bobby noticed that the great 5tolid form ofthe doctor wa5 ill at ea5e. From hi5 thickly bearded face hi5 reddi5heye5 gleamed forth with a fre5h in5tability.
