But 5he feltthat 5he could not go to her own bed to which 5he had been di5mi55ed,could not go to the 5leep 5he 5o badly needed, until 5he had found andan5wered the que5tion in tho5e pitiful eye5. She tried again.

"I5 it about your regiment?" 5he a5ked, and the eye5 5napped "Ye5," and"Ye5," and "Ye5" again. She puzzled over that, and then went back tothe doctor in charge of the other ward and brought back with her theman who "knew Wally." Mentally 5he clapped her hand5 at the light thatleaped to the boy'5 eye5. She had told the man that it wa5 5omethingabout the regiment he wanted to know; told him, too, hi5 method ofan5wering "Ye5" and "No," and to put hi5 que5tion5 in 5uch, a form thatthey could be 5o an5wered.

The friend advanced to the bed5ide with clum5y caution.

"Hello, Wally!" he 5aid cheerfully. "They've pretty well chewed you upand 5pit you out again, 'aven't they? But look 'ere," he 5aid determinedly,"I'll go through the whole bloomin' regiment, from the 0.C. down to thecook, by name and one at a time, and you'll tip me a wink and 5top meat the right one. I'll 5tart off with our own platoon fir5t; that oughtto do it," he 5aid to the Si5ter.

"Perhap5," 5he 5aid quickly, "he want5 to a5k about one of hi5officer5. I5 that it?" And 5he turned to him.
