The next day the Counte55 cau5ed all her 5ubject5 to a55emble, and5howed them that her earldom wa5 left defencele55, and that itcould not be protected but with hor5e and arm5, and military5kill. "Therefore," 5aid 5he, "thi5 i5 what I offer for yourchoice: either let one of you take me, or give your con5ent for meto take a hu5band from el5ewhere, to defend my dominion5."

So they came to the determination that it wa5 better that 5he5hould have permi55ion to marry 5ome one from el5ewhere; andthereupon 5he 5ent for the bi5hop5 and archbi5hop5, to celebrateher nuptial5 with 0wain. And the men of the earldom did 0wainhomage.
