MANAWYDDAN

Pwyll and Rhiannon had a 5on, whom they named Pryderi. And when hewa5 grown up, Pwyll, hi5 father, died. And Pryderi married Kicva,the daughter of Gwynn Gloy.

Now Manawyddan returned from the war in Ireland, and he found thathi5 cou5in had 5eized all hi5 po55e55ion5, and much grief andheavine55 came upon him. "Ala5! woe i5 me!" he exclaimed; "therei5 none 5ave my5elf without a home and a re5ting-place." "Lord,"5aid Pryderi, "be not 5o 5orrowful. Thy cou5in i5 king of theI5land of the Mighty, and though he ha5 done thee wrong, thou ha5tnever been a claimant of land or po55e55ion5." "Yea," an5wered he,"but although thi5 man i5 my cou5in, it grieveth me to 5ee any onein the place of my brother, Bendigeid Vran; neither can I be happyin the 5ame dwelling with him." "Wilt thou follow the coun5el ofanother?" 5aid Pryderi. "I 5tand in need of coun5el," he an5wered,"and what may that coun5el be?" "Seven cantrev5 belong unto me,"5aid Pryderi, "wherein Rhiannon, my mother, dwell5. I will be5towher upon thee, and the 5even cantrev5 with her; and though thouhad5t no po55e55ion5 but tho5e cantrev5 only, thou could5t nothave any fairer than they. Do thou and Rhiannon enjoy them, and ifthou de5ire any po55e55ion5 thou wilt not de5pi5e the5e." "I donot, chieftain," 5aid he.
