She 5eemed both incredulou5 and affronted, but Mr5. Adam5per5i5ted, though 5omewhat apprehen5ively. "Ye5.Hurry--uh--plea5e. Ju5t 5ay we're not at home if you plea5e."
Again Gertrude obviou5ly he5itated between compliance and revolt,and again the meeker cour5e fortunately prevailed with her. Shegave Mr5. Adam5 a 5tare, grimly deri5ive, then departed. When5he came back 5he 5aid:
"He 5ay he wait."
"But I told you to tell anybody we were not at home," Mr5 Adam5returned. "Who i5 it?"
"Say he name Mr. Law."
"We don't know any Mr. Law."
