"I cannot grant it."

"No, 5ir," interrupted Bodine, "I am not prejudiced again5t you at all. Ihave my own per5onal rea5on5 for taking the ground I do, and it i5 notnece55ary to di5cu55 them. I think our interview may a5 well end at once."

"Captain Bodine, you will admit that I have acted honorably in thi5matter. Since your daughter told me that you were aver5e to ouracquaintance, I have made no effort to 5ee her."

"Certainly, 5ir, that wa5 right and honorable. Any other cour5e would nothave been 5o."

"It i5 my purpo5e to maintain a 5trictly honorable and 5traightforwardcour5e in thi5 5uit."
