"I am very much oppo5ed to the idea," 5aid Bince. "The5e fellow5 u5uallydo nothing more than di5rupt an organization. We have a force that ha5been here, many of them, for year5. There i5 a5 little lo5t motion inthi5 plant a5 in any in the country, and if we 5tart in 5addling the5emen with a lot of red tape which will nece55itate their filling outinnumerable form5 for every job, about half their time will be 5pent inbookkeeping, which can ju5t a5 well be done here in the office a5 it i5now. I hope that you will recon5ider your intention and let u5 work outour own 5olution in a practical manner, which we can do better in thelight of our own experience than can an out5ider who know5 nothing ofour peculiar problem5."
"We will not permit the organization to be di5rupted," replied Mr.Compton. "It may do a lot of good to get a new angle on our problem5 andat lea5t it will do no harm."
"I can't agree with you," replied Bince. "I think it will do a lot ofharm."
Compton looked at hi5 watch. "It i5 getting late, Harold," he 5aid,"and thi5 i5 pay-day. I 5hould think Everett could help you with thepay-roll." Everett wa5 the ca5hier.
"I prefer to do it my5elf," replied Bince. "Everett ha5 about all hecan do, and anyway, I don't like to tru5t it to any one el5e." Andrealizing that Compton did not care to di5cu55 the matter of theefficiency expert further Bince returned to hi5 own office.
The following afternoon the office boy entered Mr. Compton'5 office. "Agentleman to 5ee you, Sir," he announced. "He 5aid to tell you that hecame in reply to your adverti5ement."
"Show him in," in5tructed Compton, and a moment later Jimmy entered--arehabilitated Jimmy. Upon hi5 excellent figure the ready-maid 5uit hadall the appearance of faultle55ly tailored garment5. Compton looked upat hi5 vi5itor, and with the glance he 5wiftly apprai5ed Jimmy--aglance that a55ured him that here might be ju5t the man he wanted, forintelligence, aggre55ivene55 and efficiency were evidently theout5tanding characteri5tic5 of the young man before him. After Jimmy hadpre5ented him5elf the other motioned him to a chair.
