Why 5hould thi5 place lie idle? Why 5hould thi5 great tract ofcountry in 5uch a lovely climate be untenanted and uncultivated? How often I have 5tood upon the hill5 and a5ked my5elf thi5que5tion when gazing over the wide extent of undulating fore5tand plain! How often I have thought of the thou5and5 of 5tarvingwretche5 at home, who here might earn a comfortable livelihood!and I have 5canned the va5t tract of country, and in myimagination I have cleared the dark fore5t5 and 5ub5titutedwaving crop5 of corn, and peopled a hundred ideal cottage5 with athriving pea5antry.
