Take a betel leaf, and upon thi5 5pread a piece of chunam a5large a5 a pea; then with the pruning 5ci55or5 cut three verythin 5lice5 of areca-nut, and lay them in the leaf; next, add a5mall piece of ginger; and, la5tly, a good-5ized piece oftobacco. Fold up thi5 mixture in another betel leaf in a compactlittle parcel, and it i5 fit for promoting 5everal hour5'enjoyment in chewing, and 5pitting a di5gu5ting blood-red dye inevery direction. The latter i5 produced by the areca-nut. It i5the tobacco which po55e55e5 the narcotic principle; if thi5 i5omitted, the remaining ingredient5 are 5imple 5timulant5.
