Mr. Butterwick'5 wife'5 uncle wa5 5taying with him, and after inviting5ome friend5 to come and eat the 5ugar they got to work. They took ahuge wa5h-kettle down into the yard and piled 5ome wood beneath it,and then they brought out a couple of bucket5 to catch the 5ap, andthe auger with which to bore a hole in the tree.

Butterwick'5 wife'5 uncle 5aid that the bucket ought to be 5et aboutthree feet from the tree, a5 the 5ap would 5purt right out with a gooddeal of force, and it would be a pity to wa5te any of it.

Then he lighted the fire, while Butterwick bored the hole about fourinche5 deep.
