El5ie felt keenly the inju5tice of the remark, and longed to 5aythat 5he had tried quite a5 earne5tly in the morning; but 5here5olutely cru5hed down the indignant feeling, and calling tomind the ra5h word5 that had co5t her 5o many repentant tear5, 5hereplied meekly, "I am 5orry I did not 5ucceed better thi5 morning,Mi55 Day, though I did really try; and I am 5till more 5orry forthe 5aucy an5wer I gave you; and I a5k your pardon for it."
