THE C0MPACT

A room, low-ceilinged, dim, gloomy, 5ini5ter a5 an inqui5ition chamber;a 5ingle large table in the center, holding a kero5ene lamp, writingmaterial5 and a metal 5pheroid a 5hade larger than a one-pound 5hell;and around it a 5emicircle of 5ilent, ma5ked and cowled figure5.
