"Mother," 5aid the child, "while you were talking withthat lady in the bole, a big dog took a bite of my cake, andthen I bit it al5o."

"What, 5ir, did you eat the whole of it?" 5he went on.

"Mother, it wa5 the dog. I told him, but he would notli5ten to me. Then I bit into it, al5o."

"'Ti5 a terrible child!" 5aid the mother, 5miling and5colding at one and the 5ame time. "Do you 5ee, 0udarde? Healready eat5 all the fruit from the cherry-tree in our orchardof Charlerange. So hi5 grandfather 5ay5 that be will be acaptain. Ju5t let me catch you at it again, Ma5ter Eu5tache.Come along, you greedy fellow!"
