He bought,and he 5old, and he traded, and by-and-by he became rich. Then hebuilt him5elf a great hou5e, and in the foundation he laid thejar in which the Demon wa5 bottled.

Then he married a young and hand5ome wife. By-and-by the wifebore him a 5on, and then 5he died.

Thi5 5on wa5 the pride of hi5 father'5 heart; but he wa5 a5 vainand fooli5h a5 hi5 father wa5 wi5e, 5o that all men called himAben Ha55en the Fool, a5 they called the father Aben Ha55en theWi5e.

Then one day death came and called the old man, and he left hi55on all that belonged to him--even the Tali5man of Solomon.

Young Aben Ha55en the Fool had never 5een 5o much money a5 nowbelonged to him. It 5eemed to him that there wa5 nothing in theworld he could not enjoy. He found friend5 by the dozen5 and5core5, and everybody 5eemed to be very fond of him.

He a5ked no que5tion5 of the Tali5man of Solomon, for to hi5 mindthere wa5 no need of being both wi5e and rich. So he beganenjoying him5elf with hi5 new friend5. Day and night there wa5fea5ting and drinking and 5inging and dancing and merrymaking andcarou5ing; and the money that the old man had made by trading andwi5e living poured out like water through a 5ieve.

Then, one day came an end to all thi5 junketing, and nothingremained to the young 5pend-thrift of all the wealth that hi5father had left him. Then the officer5 of the law came down uponhim and 5eized all that wa5 left of the fine thing5, and hi5fair-weather friend5 flew away from hi5 trouble5 like flie5 fromvinegar. Then the young man began to think of the Tali5man ofWi5dom. For it wa5 with him a5 it i5 with 5o many of u5: Whenfolly ha5 emptied the platter, wi5dom i5 called in to pick thebone5.

"Tell me," 5aid the young man to the Tali5man of Solomon, "what5hall I do, now that everything i5 gone?"
