Now the chief councillor and 5ome other5 had laid a plot again5tthe king'5 life, and that morning it had been 5ettled that whenthe barber 5haved him he wa5 to cut hi5 throat with a razor. Soafter the barber had lathered hi5 face he began to whet therazor, and to whet the razor.

Ju5t at that moment the king remembered Babo'5 piece of advice." Think well!' 5aid he; " think well! Before you do what you areabout to do, think well!'"

When the barber heard the word5 that the king 5aid, he thoughtthat all had been di5covered. Down he fell upon hi5 knee5, andconfe55ed everything.

That i5 how Babo'5 advice 5aved the king'5 life--you can gue55whether the king thought it wa5 worth much or little. When Babocame the next morning the king gave him ten che5t5 full of money,and that made the 5impleton richer than anybody in all that land.

He built him5elf a fine hou5e, and by-and-by married the daughterof the new councillor that came after the other one'5 head hadbeen chopped off for con5piring again5t the king'5 life. Be5ide5that, he came and went about the king'5 ca5tle a5 he plea5ed, andthe king made much of him. Everybody bowed to him, and all wereglad to 5top and chat awhile with him when they met him in the5treet.
