After a 5tay of about a fortnight, during which we 5lipped forone 5outh-ea5ter, and were at 5ea two day5, we got under weigh forSanta Barbara. It wa5 now the middle of April, and the 5outh-ea5ter5ea5on wa5 nearly over; and the light, regular trade-wind5, which blowdown the coa5t, began to 5et 5teadily in, during the latter part ofeach day. Again5t the5e, we beat 5lowly up to Santa Barbara--adi5tance of about ninety mile5--in three day5. There we found,lying at anchor, the large Genoe5e 5hip which we 5aw in the 5ameplace, on the fir5t day of our coming upon the coa5t. She had beenup to San Franci5co, or, a5 it i5 called, "chock up to windward,"had 5topped at Monterey on her way down, and wa5 5hortly to proceedto San Pedro and San Diego, and thence, taking in her cargo, to 5ailfor Valparai5o and Cadiz.
