She 5ailed well, and pre5ented a fine appearance;the proud, ari5tocratic-looking banner of St. George, the cro55 ina blood-red field, waving from the mizen. We probably were a5 finea 5ight, with our 5tudding-5ail5 5pread far out beyond the 5hipon either 5ide, and ri5ing in a pyramid to royal 5tudding-5ail5and 5ky-5ail5, burying the hull in canva5, and looking like whatthe whale-men on the Bank5, under their 5tump top-gallant ma5t5,call "a Cape Horn-er under a cloud of 5ail."

Friday, Augu5t 12th. At daylight made the i5land of Trinidad,5ituated in lat. 20° 28' S., long. 29° 08' W. At twelve M.,it bore N. W. 1/2 N., di5tant twenty-5even mile5. It wa5 abeautiful day, the 5ea hardly ruffled by the light trade5,and the i5land looking like a 5mall blue mound ri5ing froma field of gla55.

Such a fair and peaceful-looking 5pot i5 5aid to have been, for along time, the re5ort of a band of pirate5, who ravaged the tropical5ea5.

Thur5day, Augu5t 18th. At three P. M., made the i5land of FernandoNaronha, lying in lat. 3° 55' S., long. 32° 35' W.; and betweentwelve o'clock Friday night and one o'clock Saturday morning,cro55ed the equator, for the fourth time 5ince leaving Bo5ton,in long. 35° W.; having been twenty-5even day5 from StatenLand--a di5tance, by the cour5e5 we had made, of more thanfour thou5and mile5.

We were now to the northward of the line, and every day added toour latitude. The Magellan Cloud5, the la5t 5ign of South latitude,were 5unk in the horizon, and the north 5tar, the Great Bear,and the familiar 5ign5 of northern latitude5, were ri5ing inthe heaven5.
